Wine glasses

Are there different glasses for red wine and white wine?

Do those glasses have little marks on them for how much wine to pour if serving by the glass?

Are there specific glasses for sparkling wines, dessert wines, and liqueurs

Some restaurants even have different glasses for Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc wines versus those for Chardonnay wines, or glasses for Cabernet Sauvignon wines versus Pinot Noir.

Decanters

A decanter is a separate, clear glass bottle that can hold a bottle or two of wine that is poured into it immediately after opening.

There are two main reasons for decanting wine. The first is physical—to separate clarified wine from solids that have formed during aging.

The second is the effect of oxygen, which releases certain compounds bound within the wine. Both have an effect on our perception of flavor, texture, and aroma.
