Practice this method until you are very comfortable with it, maybe about 12-25 times. Then switch to the way sommeliers do it by holding the bottle very steadily at a 45-degree angle with one hand and starting the corkscrew in the cork and turning the screw until it is about nine-tenths (0.9) of the way into the cork. Then turn the bottle upright vertical to the floor and lever the cork partially out with the first notch on the corkscrew and then use the 2nd notch to remove the cork entirely from the bottle.
