This also applies when we bring a wine from home and pay “corkage” to the restaurant. We won’t bring a cheap wine, but we will bring a very good wine, which, if it was available on the restaurant’s list, would be marked up to a price that we would prefer not to pay.
If we bring that wine and pay corkage on it, it almost always is a “meditation” wine that we want to start out with.
Don’t let that discourage you from offering to sell us, or a least some of us, other wines to go with our food.
